Student Vulfas Čarnockis

Student Vulfas Čarnockis (1919–1941) was born in Bila Tserkva, Ukraine, where he father, a teacher at the Jewish school in Panevėžys, was evacuated during the First World War. The family returned from Ukraine to Lithuania and settled in Vilnius where in 1937 Vulfas finished a gymnasium with intensified teaching of humanities. From 10 September 1940, he studied the French language and literature at the Department of Philology of the Faculty of Humanities of Vilnius University. On 19 September 1941, he was expelled from the university along with other Jewish students. This decision was made as per the order of the Department of Higher Education of the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the Nazis. Vulfas Čarnockis was murdered during the Holocaust.
