Ginzburgas Benijaminas

Benijaminas Ginzburgas was born on 9 March 1922 in Vilnius. In 1940, he finished the third gymnasium for boys in Vilnius with accelerated teaching of mathematics. Since Benijaminas had always been interested in natural sciences, in 1940 he was admitted into the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vilnius University. However, he did not have the opportunity to finish the studies he had enjoyed so much: on 19 September 1941 he and many other Jewish students were expelled from the university on the basis of the Order of 17 September 1941 of the Higher Education Department of the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the Nazis and enforced their policies. Shortly after, Benijaminas Ginzburgas was forced to move from his home on Šopeno Street into the Vilnius Ghetto. There is information about him being a visitor to the library of the Vilnius Ghetto and about his disobedience to the local ghetto police. In June 1943, Benijaminas was arrested for misconduct by the Vilnius ghetto police. His further fate is unknown.
