Kinkulkinaitė-Aleskovičienė Tobia

Tobia Kinkulkinaitė was born on 11 June 1920 in Vilnius, into the family of Simonas and Sonia Kinkulkinas. In 1938, Tobia graduated from the A.J. Czartoryski Gymnasium in Vilnius after passing her examinations with excellent and good grades. After high school, she became a student in the Faculty of Law of the Vilnius Stephen Bathory University, where she studied during 1938–1939. Late in 1939, she changed her mind and, having passed all the necessary examinations, enrolled in the medical faculty of the same university. A gifted medical student who knew Polish, Russian, French, and Lithuanian well and also spoke a little Yiddish and English, Tobia, like many other students from families of modest income, combined studies and work: she gave private lessons to schoolchildren. She married while at the university, and although the name of her husband is not known, she added his surname to her name. As Tobia Kinkulkinaitė-Aleskovičienė, on 19 September 1941, she was expelled from the Medical Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Vilnius University on the basis of the Order of 17 September 1941 of the Higher Education Department of the Board of Education, which was subordinate to the Nazis. Tobia was killed in Vilnius during the Holocaust. The date of her death is not accurately documented, but testimonies indicate 1942–1943.
