Scholarships
The following types of financial support (scholarships) are available to students at the University:

Procedures for granting these scholarships are established in the Vilnius University Scholarship Regulations.
Incentive Scholarships
Incentive Scholarship – awarded for particularly good academic results. Scholarships are awarded and disbursed twice a year, after the deadline of the previous semester's progress ranking.
This scholarship is awarded automatically, no application is required. If you receive this scholarship, you will be informed personally. The size of the scholarship is 11 basic social benefits (BSB). Currently, 1 BSB is 70 EUR.
Payments are made twice a year – in October and March.
Community Support Scholarship
Community Support Scholarship – awarded to students in the case of illness of the student or their relatives, death of relatives, natural or other disasters, a sudden deterioration in the financial situation of a student or their family and in other special cases.
The scholarship is one-off, its amount ranges from 2 BSB to 15 BSB; in exceptional cases, the commission for the award of a scholarship may take a decision to award a scholarship the amount of which is up to 35 BSB.
Applications for the scholarship can be filled at the eStudent environment anytime throughout the study period.
Commission meetings and scholarship payments occur five times a year, in October, December, March, May, and June.
Scholarship for Social Activities
Scholarship for Social Activities – awarded to students for individual achievements that contribute to the creation of future society, solving societal problems, achieving the goals set out in the strategic plan of the University and other accomplishments that promote the name of the University.
Students wishing to receive scholarship must submit an application at the eStudent environment by 25 October in the Autumn semester and by 25 March in the Spring semester. The application must be accompanied by a detailed description of the student’s activities for which the scholarship is requested, and specify the periods, scope and relevance of the activities to the society or promotion of the name of the University. Recommendations, documents supporting the activities, etc. can also be provided.
The amount of a scholarship ranges from 2 BSB to 15 BSB. Currently, 1 BSB is 70 EUR.
The fall semester scholarship is paid in December, and the spring semester scholarship is paid in May.
Scholarship for Research Achievements
Scholarship for Research Achievements – awarded to students of the first cycle, second cycle, integrated, professional pedagogy and residency study programmes who are distinguished for their mature research activities.
Students wishing to receive a scholarship must submit an application at the eStudent environment by 10 November in the Autumn semester and by 10 May in the Spring semester. The application shall be accompanied by a detailed description of the student’s research activities and documents supporting achievements in research activities (copies of published or accepted publication articles, conference presentation abstracts, project works, diplomas, recommendations, etc.).
The amount of the scholarship ranges from 2 BSB to 15 BSB. Currently, 1 BSB is 70 EUR.
The fall semester scholarship is paid in December, and the spring semester scholarship is paid in June.
Scholarship for Achievements in Sports
The scholarship is awarded to students of the first, second, and third cycle, integrated, and professional studies who have distinguished themselves in sports achievements by representing the University and through highly active participation in sports activities within the University sports teams or individual sports.
Candidates may be nominated to the commission for the award of the scholarship by the heads and members of the sports teams of the Health and Sport Center of the University, other members of the community of the Health and Sport Center of the University, and the University community. Students can also independently apply for a scholarship by submitting an application through the Vilnius University Study Information System.
The scholarship is one-off and its amount is from 2 BSB to 15 BSB. The BSB is the basic social benefit, the amount of which is established by the State and is currently EUR 70 per month. The scholarship may be awarded to the student no more than once per study semester.
The fall semester scholarship is paid in December, and the spring semester scholarship is paid in May.
Named Scholarships
Named Scholarship – awarded to University students for the best learning outcomes, research achievements, for social or other reasons in accordance with the basis and principles for awarding the scholarship established in the regulations of a specific scholarship. Please contact the Academic Core Unit where you study to find out your options.
Foreign Student Scholarships
Foreign student scholarships are granted to foreign university students who came to study according to bilateral cooperation agreements. Scholarship sizes are the same as the sizes of incentive scholarships granted to University students of an appropriate cycle, excluding cases when another scholarship size is agreed and provided in order to maintain the partnership.
Partial Studies Student Scholarship
Partial Studies Student Scholarship – awarded to students of foreign higher education institutions with which the University has signed bilateral cooperation agreements, who come to study at the University for one or two semesters. The amount of scholarship awarded to students of the first cycle, second cycle and integrated studies is equal to 1.5 BSB per month; the amount of the scholarship awarded to the third cycle students is provided for in the Description of the Procedure for Granting Support for Studies to Doctoral Students and Students Studying Under Professional Study Programmes approved by Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania No. 149 of 1 March 2017 “On the Implementation of the Republic of Lithuania Law on Higher Education and Research”.
Doctoral (PhD) Student Scholarships
Doctoral (PhD) student scholarships are granted to state-funded PhD students, and resident doctor scholarship are granted to state-funded residents. PhD student and resident doctor scholarships are granted according to the procedures established by the Government. Read more in the information for PhD students and residents section.

Information on the suitable certificates you can include with your scholarship application
Certificate of Income
Suitable documents:
- Certificate of state social insurance from the SoDra;
- Certificate of registration with the Lithuanian Employment Service;
- Income declaration (if self-employed);
- Certificate of income from the employer (if a student is not registered at SoDra and if applying for a communitry support grant)
Not suitable documents:
- Certificate of benefits paid/not paid
Documents must be in English or Lithuanian.
Certificate of Family Composition
Suitable documents:
- Certificate of personal data from the Centre of Registers;
- Certificate of family composition from the municipality. If the student's siblings are to be included in the family, the certificate must be ordered in the name of one of the parents;
- Certificate of family composition from the country of origin.
Not suitable documents:
- Certificate of declaration of residence.
Documents must be in English or Lithuanian.
Social Scholarships
Social Scholarship – is awarded to students of the first cycle and integrated studies who are studying in a higher year of studies than the first and to students of the second cycle and professional pedagogy studies who are studying in a higher semester of studies than the first, provided they meet the criteria:
A scholarship consists of two parts: periodic and one-off payments. The amount of the periodic part of the scholarship is EUR 200 per month.
A student wishing to receive a scholarship must submit an application at the eStudent environment by 30 June (in the case of students of the second cycle and professional pedagogy students studying in the first year – by 15 January). The application shall also specify which of the criteria a person meets.
The first scholarship payment is made at the end of September. For second cycle and professional pedagogy students in their first semester of study, the payment is made at the end of February.
